The mayor of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez, inaugurated this Friday morning the new headquarters of the Local Police Station of the municipality, an installation that has involved an investment of 375,000 euros from the City Council's own funds. The new headquarters is located in the old Arrecife courthouse building, a building that had accumulated 17 years of abandonment and ruin.
“When I arrived to the Government in 2019, we saw how the agents patrolled in rental vehicles and that they worked in a place that did not meet, not even close, the minimum elements for them to work with dignity. Therefore, we started working and here we have the new Police Station”, said the mayor, Astrid Pérez.
“I know it is not an easy task, because there are still pending needs, but you have the commitment of this mayor, and my government, that we will continue working hand in hand to make it so, because I truly believe that security is everyone's commitment”, Astrid Pérez pointed out.
“It is a three-story facility without architectural barriers, completely restored both inside and out and that has all the latest technologies to facilitate the work of the agents”, she added.
In addition, the mayor pointed out that they are "initiating the procedures to provide the facilities with a space that serves for the training and improvement of the agents in the handling of firearms and with electronic control devices".
Likewise, this new headquarters has an area in which agents can view the 55 security cameras that will be installed progressively throughout the different neighborhoods of the municipality. “We continue to invest in security, and with these video surveillance cameras the agents will be able to act more quickly to guarantee the security of the capital”, added the mayor.
Commitment to the Local Police of Arrecife
“In addition to the lack of a headquarters, the agents had a significant lack of materials, so we launched a Security Improvement Plan that allowed us to effectively eliminate these deficiencies”, Astrid Pérez pointed out, who recalls that new PDAs were distributed to the agents so that they could speed up their work.
Likewise, Pérez recalled that since she entered the Government in 2019, they have increased the staff “by 8 more agents” and a public call has been made “for another seven new positions”. In addition, new vehicles have also been purchased for the municipal corps.
“Our commitment to the Local Police has been total, because we saw how it was a body totally abandoned to its fate and that was crying out for a series of restructurings and investments that we have not hesitated to grant”, she pointed out.
On the other hand, Pérez congratulated the different work units of the Local Police of Arrecife, for "their tireless work in guaranteeing the safety of the people of Arrecife. It excites and comforts me that the safety of the capital is in the best possible hands."
