Nueva Canarias in Lanzarote has sent a statement in which it expresses its condolences for the tragedy experienced in the last boat that arrived to the island, demands more resources from the State "for the safety and rescue of immigrants" and also criticizes the "xenophobic and execrable comments that have been made on social networks" after that event, which has left the death of a baby who was born during the journey and the loss of another who was not born, as his mother suffered a miscarriage.

"No one has the power to decide whether a death is valid or not. It demonstrates a lack of humanity that we must reject and denounce by the whole of society. If the Canarian people are characterized by something, it is by their solidarity and empathy, even more so because we have been a people of emigrants," the party points out.

In addition, it conveys its condolences "to the mothers and fathers of the deceased babies", as well as "to all the immigrants who suffer an ordeal in search of a better life in our Archipelago". For the nationalists, "no human being has to suffer a situation like the one experienced by the women and men who leave their homes and get on a boat with their children, leaving behind their country and family". Therefore, they defend that Canarian society must "be empathetic towards anyone who seeks a better future, since no death is justified".

Likewise, NC considers that these deaths "are the consequence of the desperation suffered by immigrants in their countries of origin, and reflect a reality that some political parties do not want to recognize, that emigrating is a drama and not just a decision".

They demand "an urgent intervention" from the State

On the other hand, NC demands from the new Government of the Spanish State an "urgent intervention in the Canary Islands so that the tragic episodes that Canarian society, and in particular Lanzarote society, is experiencing on its coasts are not repeated". "The urgent thing, since it is not possible to stop illegal immigration from the origin, is to ensure the lives of the people who get on the boats heading to the Canary Islands", for which it demands "greater security and rescue forces that can intervene quickly in situations such as those experienced yesterday".

Likewise, they ask the senators and deputies who represent the island of Lanzarote to "coordinate with the aim of repairing or, if necessary, renewing the SIVE" by the Spanish Government. "Lanzarote cannot wait any longer. A renewal of the island's radars is urgent," they warn.

"Nueva Canarias-Lanzarote understands that the capacity of the Government of the Canary Islands and the island and municipal institutions is limited in terms of immigration, considering that it is the State's obligation to promote and execute the actions that are pertinent in the state territory, such as the scope of the European Union," concludes the party.
