The deputy of Nueva Canarias (NC) in Congress, Pedro Quevedo, has asked the state government about the "reasons that prevent the filming of the Netflix series, Welcome to Eden, from continuing on the island of Lanzarote.". The spokesperson for the progressive nationalists in the Lower House warned of the "important economic impact of a situation caused by the lack of permits from the Coasts, aggravated by the serious crisis generated by the pandemic in the tourism sector."
Pedro Quevedo has registered a total of three questions to be answered in writing after learning that the filming team of Welcome to Eden is forced to leave Lanzarote, and move to the Peninsula, due to the “lack” of permits from Coasts to continue working in Caletón Blanco.
The NC congressman denounced the “significant economic loss caused by this situation, by losing the group of 220 professionals linked to the filming, as well as for promotion in a new professional niche, which allows diversifying the productive fabric so far focused almost exclusively on tourism activity."
For these reasons, Quevedo asks about the “exact” reasons that have motivated “not granting” the permits for filming and whether the “relevant” economic impact has been taken into account, “even more so in the difficult times” that tourism is going through in the Canary Islands.
