The filming of the series 'Welcome to Eden', the new Netflix project, will leave Lanzarote earlier than expected due to "lack of permits" from Costas, as revealed by the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero.
"These people wanted to leave two million euros in Lanzarote but, due to lack of permits, they have to go to Teruel to shoot in a scenario staging that they are on the island of Lanzarote. And that is money that is no longer invested here on the island," said the mayor.
As he explained, the production company in charge of filming has already recorded "in several areas of the municipality and the island" but "they have to leave because they do not have permission to film in Caletón Blanco." "We also have to see what they were going to do there, because we don't have to be strict either, and we have to preserve the environment," said the mayor, who nevertheless regretted that money is being "lost."
And, in addition, he pointed out that the filming team, made up of some 220 people, is staying in apartments in Costa Teguise. "We are talking about very important production companies, which move a lot of money," said Betancort.
In fact, the regional parliamentarian also believes that the Canary Islands "have to forget a little about the tourist model that we have always implemented" and "start to investigate other types of models," such as filming. "I think we are in luck and that we should go that way, because the incentive given to these people is very good and the places we have to stage the filming, according to them, are the best they have seen," he added.
Likewise, Betancort pointed out that he has presented a question in the Parliament of the Canary Islands about the operation of the Coastal Management in the archipelago. And, he pointed out that "they don't answer the phone, all the people are on leave and there are many projects stopped due to the fact that there are no reports."
