The spokesperson for the Renovating Movement of Tinajo (MRT), Antonio Morales, has affirmed that the municipality "has lost once again" in these last four years an opportunity to update and adapt the General Plan of Organization to the current regulations.

"With barely a month left for the current mandate to come to an end, after more than 15 years with Jesús Machín, unfortunately the General Plan is still not adapted to the current regulations", he added. In this sense, he pointed out that among the laws to which the municipality continues without adapting is the Canary Islands Land Law, which requires, among other aspects, that Tinajo adhere to the environmental evaluation body of the Government of the Canary Islands", MRT emphasized in a statement.

The spokesperson for the political formation, Antonio Morales, has insisted that “planning our land allows the generation of economy and employment in the municipality; it makes it easier for residents to build their own houses on land they have inherited or bought and for entrepreneurs to install their companies in our municipality”, explains Antonio Morales

Likewise, he regrets that “in the last decade the mayor has not introduced specific modifications to the General Plan, has not corrected certain alignments that were incorrect from the beginning, and has not even responded to the allegations of citizens and entrepreneurs, whom the mayor has once again deceived - just like the opposition - who have been demanding for some time that the document be modified and updated to the new laws and the new times”.

Morales recalls that in recent years “neither hiring a technician in 2018 who has not had a physical presence in the Tinajo City Council, nor delegating the powers over the General Plan to the public company Gesplan in 2021 have provided a single solution to the residents and entrepreneurs whom Jesús Machín has once again deceived”.

At this point, the MRT has stated that in the last ordinary plenary session of March 9 at the request of the MRT, the drafting and approval of the General Plan has been delegated again to the Municipal Plenary, so “the agreement signed two years ago with Gesplan” has been useless.

“The mayor and his municipal government are closing doors to the development and progress of the municipality. Without updating the General Plan, what they are achieving is that our residents have to move to another municipality and that companies also choose to establish themselves in other municipalities”, Morales pointed out.

These problems generated by "the lack of planning in force" also cause that “today many residents are paying taxes for land that in theory is developable but in which, however, they are not allowed to build”. “Another false commitment acquired by the mayor was the elimination of action units, a figure that cannot be suppressed and that all general plans contemplate”, Morales highlighted.

From the MRT they have demanded the mayor and the municipal government group “to give explanations to the residents of Tinajo” and “to clarify with documentation in hand what they have done in these last four years of legislature for the General Plan and what work the City Council has done in the last decade to update and adapt this important municipal tool”.
