Meeting of the City Council with Ahinor

More than 250 family units are at risk of eviction in Lanzarote, according to data from the Association of People Affected by the Mortgage North (Ahinor) disseminated by the Island Council, which has announced that both institutions will collaborate to advise families who could lose their homes.

The Lanzarote Council has held a meeting with the Association of People Affected by Mortgages North (Ahinor) with the aim of establishing the lines of work between both entities and to respond to the need to comply with the right to housing. To this end, the Island Corporation has already nominated a subsidy in favor of this organization, in order to facilitate its work on the island.

The Councilor for Social Welfare, Isabel Martín, has highlighted the importance of cooperative work between institutions to "address this economic and social crisis, and prevent families who took advantage of the mortgage moratorium during the pandemic from losing their homes."

For her part, the Councilor for Finance and Housing, Rosa Callero, has assured that they will work "to ensure that the largest possible number of people can be attended to and can receive advice on their mortgage loan, in order to try to eradicate, to the greatest extent possible, possible violations of the right to housing, as well as to keep citizens informed in relation to procedures that may be tedious and complicated."

This situation affects "hundreds of family units in the Canary Islands", the Cabildo states, from where it is highlighted that, according to Ahinor's data, only on the island of Lanzarote there are more than 250 files of mortgage procedures that could lead to the loss of housing.
