The general secretary of the Canarian Coalition in Lanzarote, Migdalia Machín, has spoken before the microphones of Radio Lanzarote - Onda Cero regarding the rumors that place her at the head of the Ministry of Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands.
"I know there is a lot of noise, the only certainty we have is that there will be someone from Lanzarote, because our way of seeing it is that there has to be someone from all the islands", said the Canarian parliamentarian on the morning radio program, who for the moment neither confirms nor denies the information. "There is a lot of noise around, I am aware that my name is being mentioned and I cannot deny that", she added.
"It is flattering that they think of me", Machín insisted, who assures that this reality is not yet firm and that the only certainty is that David Toledo from Lanzarote is the president of the Canarian Coalition group in Parliament. "It was not something that was in my plans, my idea was to be in Parliament for another four years, it has internal work, very individual, you have to study a lot"
To know if Migdalia Machín will definitively take the Culture portfolio, it will be necessary to wait for Fernando Clavijo to be appointed president of the Government of the Canary Islands. At that moment, it will be the main regional figure who decrees those who will make up his government group and the areas to be delegated.
In the middle of the campaign for the general elections on July 23, this Thursday, the candidate of the Canarian Coalition for the Congress of Deputies for the province of Las Palmas, María Fernández, and the candidate for the Senate for Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Emilio Machín, were accompanied by the veteran Ana Oramas. "We are with the machinery" facing the general elections, said Migdalia Machín. The weight of the nationalist, classified by her own as "a reference", continues to be crucial in the party.
The possible arraignment of Pedro San Ginés
The parliamentary groups with the greatest representation in Parliament have the possibility of choosing three senators, in total, who will be part of the Upper House. The future of the now Canarian parliamentarian Pedro San Ginés is also in the air, charged with six crimes in a judicial process still unresolved and whose name resonates to occupy the seat that corresponds to the Canarian Coalition, as the second most voted parliamentary list.
Once the regional government is formed, the possibility remains on the table that the nationalist group will elect Pedro San Ginés. "I wish we could get it", said Migdalia Machín. "We aspire to everything we can get. I aspire to everything. If I can get it for Lanzarote it would be something fundamental", she insisted.
Migdalia Machín has not commented on the possibilities of Pedro San Ginés going to the Senate to be arraigned due to the judicial cases that remain open against him: "There are many rumors. My position as secretary is to get the maximum quotas for Lanzarote that I can get, let the rest make the readings they want to make".
The reason why Fernando Clavijo's party would make this decision remains in doubt. If Pedro San Ginés becomes a senator, he should leave his seat in the Canarian Chamber and Oswaldo Betancort would obtain his seat as regional deputy.
Vox and its support for Olivia Duque (CC)
During her speech, the general secretary of the Canarian Coalition has avoided being forceful against Vox. The mayor Olivia Duque (CC) obtained the majority sufficient to take over the municipality of Teguise thanks to an agreement with the Popular Party and the support of the only councilor of Vox in the municipality.
In the swearing-in ceremony, Duque assumed the baton of command and left the door open to a possible incorporation of the far-right councilor to the City Council. Migdalia Machín also does not deny that she may assume some position in Teguise after the general elections. "What we have done is try to get Olivia to be mayor, we will see what happens, the important thing in this case is to have the mayor's office, we will see how everything goes. We have a pact with the PP", she concluded.
