The Tourism Councilor of the Tías City Council, Mame Fernández, has responded on Radio Lanzarote - Onda Cero to the criticisms made by the opposition, and in particular by Coalición Canaria, for his absence from the Consistory in recent months.
"If people do not understand a medical problem, may God forgive them, because they do not know what they are doing," said the mayor. In addition, he assured that the City Council "has not been abandoned", because everyone "always lends a hand". "In addition, I have an important work team, both from public workers and advisors," added the Tourism Councilor.
Likewise, Mame Fernández has stated that he would "appreciate" if the opposition did not get involved "in personal or health issues". "I am not going to say what health or personal problem I have, because for the moment they do not require a medical certificate to run for elections," he added.
A political situation on "stand by"
Mame Fernández is the only councilor that the LAVA coalition has in Tías, which was composed of the Party of Independents of Lanzarote (PIL) and Unidos por Yaiza (UPY) to compete in the 2019 elections. However, the coalition has not had organic activity since then, to which is also added Gladys Acuña's resignation as president of UPY.
"I am in a 'stand by' situation because I do not have a party. The goal is to finish the term and we will see what may happen in the next elections," said the mayor in this regard.
Fernández assures that "no one is essential in politics" but that as the months go by he will make a decision to run or not in the elections and under what political acronyms. "There is the trajectory, and we will see if I can continue to contribute things to politics, and if not, nothing happens," he says.
Finally, Mame Fernández points out that Gladys Acuña did not call him to communicate the decision to resign as president of UPY. "However, I can also say that I am to blame for not having called her in all this time, we cannot blame only one person," he concluded.
