Laureano Álvarez: “Oswaldo Betancort paid two hundred thousand euros to Gladys Acuña as coordinator of the mayor's office”

“No resident of Teguise has seen Acuña visit the City Council or the towns of the municipality in these four years,” Álvarez criticizes.

Oswaldo Betancort paid the "scandalous" figure of two hundred thousand euros for the advice of "his friend" Gladys Acuña as "temporary staff with exclusive dedication as Technical Coordinator of the Mayor's Office."

Laureano Álvarez, founder and candidate of the electoral group "More United for Teguise", considers that "it is incredible that Oswaldo could not find any resident of Teguise to help him and that he went to Uga to find his friend." These dizzying figures are distributed as follows: a legislature contract of more than 38,000 euros gross per year to the former mayor of Yaiza and an amount in withholdings of about 12,000 euros per year. In total, more than fifty thousand euros per year, which exceeds two hundred thousand euros per legislature.

"The truth is," continues Laureano Álvarez, "that neither in Los Valles, nor in El Mojón, nor in Costa Teguise, nor in Famara, La Graciosa or Guatiza, absolutely no one has seen Gladys work for the citizens. She is not known to have hours in the La Villa consistory. No resident of Teguise has seen Gladys Acuña visit the City Council, or the towns of the municipality, fixing roads, sidewalks, or collecting neighborhood complaints in these four years," explains Álvarez.

"When the party members have asked about the advisor, so well paid, both municipal workers and residents could not remember that Acuña worked in the City Council. Some even told us "the mayor has not passed by in four years, the advisor will pass by", in a way as jocular as it is ironic."

As a candidate of the electoral group "More United for Teguise", Laureano Álvarez recalls that "Gladys Acuña is convicted of urban prevarication and that she is in a political operation in Yaiza that has little or nothing to do with the future of the residents of the municipality of Teguise. From "More United for Teguise" we condemn these wasteful attitudes, and we make it clear, you come to the Teguise city council to work, not to maintain friends with public money," Álvarez sentences.

"We are witnessing a waste of two hundred thousand euros without any consideration, our municipality has paid a fortune for something that nobody understands, when the coherent thing would be that that salary would have gone to reinforce the technical offices, to speed up licenses, help farmers to reform their cisterns or resolving files. And it is that Teguise is the municipality of the island where everything is most delayed due to lack of specific personnel in specific matters and now we know why, the money was destined by Oswaldo Betancort and Coalición Canaria to the coordination of the mayor's office of Gladys Acuña," concludes Laureano Álvarez, candidate for Mayor of Teguise.
