Lanzarote En Pie (LEP) has presented for debate in the Arrecife plenary session a motion in which it will request the convocation of an extraordinary plenary session to carry out the debate on the state of the municipality.
The spokesperson for LEP, Leticia Padilla, explained that "the proposal is not something new since various municipalities throughout the State have established, through their inclusion in the Municipal Organization Regulations, plenary sessions with annual periodicity on the debate of the state of the municipality"; therefore, "we will also request the inclusion in the municipal regulation of plenary sessions, the annual holding of plenary sessions on the debate of the state of the municipality so that it is mandatory for the group that governs in each legislature to comply with this measure that we consider is healthy for the proper functioning of democratic institutions and that in Arrecife has not been held since 2018."
Leticia Padilla explained that this measure is also included in Law 7/2015, of April 1, of the municipalities of the Canary Islands that mentions these plenary sessions in its Article 38, referring to the Board of Spokespersons, when in section "f" it alludes to "the proposal to convene extraordinary plenary sessions, including the debate on the management of the municipal government or debate on the state of the municipality".
From this point of view, Padilla explained, "the councilors of Lanzarote En Pie in the Arrecife City Council consider it necessary that the Government Group annually expose what specific policies and objectives it plans to carry out throughout the political year, submitting that exposition to the debate of the various political groups."
Leticia Padilla elaborated on this issue stating that "although we defend the inclusion of the plenary session on the state of the municipality in the future Municipal Organization Regulations with which this corporation is provided, we believe that it is possible to carry it out regardless of its approval, so we raise the possibility through this motion, and it is agreed to hold an extraordinary plenary session on the state of the municipality in the coming dates."
The municipal spokesperson wanted to remember that during the mandate of Eva de Anta "only one debate on the state of the municipality was held in 2018, and after the constant claim by the opposition of that moment. To date, none has been held again."
