The general secretary of the PSOE of Lanzarote and deputy in Congress, María Dolores Corujo, has highlighted the investment of 327.4 million euros planned by the State for the César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport within the new Airport Regulation Document (DORA) for the period 2027-2031, a figure that greatly multiplies the 39 million allocated to this infrastructure during the 2022-2026 five-year period.
Corujo has pointed out that this investment represents “a strategic advance for Lanzarote and a clear sign of the commitment of the Government of Spain to the essential infrastructures of the island”, highlighting the impact it will have on the modernization and improvement of the main gateway to the island territory.
In this regard, the deputy has stressed that “the data shows that the Government of Spain is making a real investment effort in Lanzarote, well above the level of investment that the Government of the Canary Islands currently allocates to the island,” citing as an example the airport planning included in the new DORA.
As explained, the planned actions will allow improving the operational capacity of the airport, optimizing its facilities and reinforcing the quality of the service both for residents and for visitors, adapting the infrastructure to the growth experienced by Lanzarote from criteria of efficient planning and sustainability.
“The planning of strategic infrastructures responds to work sustained over time, based on cooperation between AENA and the Cabildo de Lanzarote, initiated in the past legislature, and oriented towards the constant defense of the island's interests before the institutions of the State”, he affirmed.
Corujo has also highlighted that "large strategic projects require institutional continuity, dialogue between administrations, and rigorous planning that allows converting the needs of the territory into real investments."
Finally, the deputy has pointed out that "the challenge now is to continue working from institutional collaboration to ensure that the planned investments are developed according to the established deadlines and contribute to improving connectivity, competitiveness and the quality of airport services in Lanzarote during the coming years".
