The municipality of Tías is experiencing its most important days this weekend for the celebration of its patron saint festivities in honor of La Candelaria and San Blas. The image of the Virgin of La Candelaria, patron saint of Tías and the Canary Islands, left this Saturday in procession from her church, at the foot of Montaña Blanca, along the road that bears the name of the patron virgin of Tías.
This 2019 the image of the Virgin has premiered her new mantle, with lace and embroidery, the work of the neighbor of Tías Pilar Curbelo Martín, who made it altruistically for the parish, as well as the new tablecloths that cover the lectern and the central table of the altar. This year La Candelaria has worn it in her procession surrounded by many parishioners, neighbors and representatives of municipal and Lanzarote public institutions. Among them were the mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, the Councilor for Festivities, Francisco Javier Aparicio Betancort, the councilors of the Government group, and representatives of the political forces present in the Municipal Corporation of Tías.
The island director of the General State Administration in Lanzarote, the senator for the island, Joel Delgado, several regional parliamentarians and military authorities attended the solemn religious function yesterday, Saturday, the day of La Candelaria, which was accompanied during the procession by the Gaida Folk Group and the Acuarti Municipal Band.
Precisely, after the procession, the Gaida Folk Group made an offering of dances to the patron saint of Tías, announcing yesterday a musical theme created in the 70s of the last century by one of the residents of Tías, "known as Andrés the tailor, Andrés Rodríguez", recalled the leader of the group Emilio Fernández.
On Saturday night, the Municipal Theater of Tías was filled with smiles with the performance of the Lila García theater group, starting at 8:30 p.m., in a performance where the auditorium of the Municipal Theater was filled. Precisely, the theater group is named after Lila García, mother of the mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, who was a great promoter of this cultural movement linked to the theater when Tías was opening up to tourist activity and parked agriculture as the main economic sector of her region.
Sunday, Day of San Blas
This Sunday, February 3, the festivity of San Blas will be celebrated this afternoon. The image of the saint will be paraded outside the Plaza de La Candelaria, in Tías. The mass and subsequent procession will be at 5:00 p.m., accompanied by the La Candelaria Choir.
The Tías City Council, through the Department of Festivities, will end its patron saint festivities of 2019 with a great show dedicated to the Canarian timple. The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, invites residents to enjoy and attend the XV Encuentro de Timples La Candelaria y San Blas, which will be this Sunday the 3rd, at 8:00 p.m., at the Municipal Theater of Tías.
