La Asomada-Mácher School has inaugurated a new covered playground this academic year, in which the City Council has invested nearly 80,000 euros. The City Council has also collaborated in providing the necessary equipment for the implementation of the new Amara Berri pedagogical system in the center, making it the first rural school on the island to implement it.

The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, accompanied by the Councilor for Education, Aroa Pérez, visited the center this Wednesday to showcase the new covered playground and learn firsthand about the application of the new pedagogical system implemented in the center.

Regarding the covered playground, it was a demand from the educational community of this school, so that students could enjoy their recess time on days of inclement weather and, especially, on very sunny days. The new pergola has been built with iron beams to generate shade. The works were carried out during the summer, coinciding with the school holidays.

New Amara Berri pedagogical system

The Amara Berri pedagogical system that has been implemented at La Asomada-Mácher School aims to teach students through play in everyday situations. For the implementation of this system, the Tías City Council, through the Department of Education, has subsidized and assisted with the material and equipment for the classrooms. For now, this educational model is taught to students in the first, second, and third grades of early childhood education, but it will gradually be developed in all grades.

During their visit to the center, the mayor of Tías and the Councilor for Education were able to learn firsthand from the director of the school, Laura Arránz González, about the application of the Amara Berri pedagogical model in the classrooms in a close and direct way. "La Asomada-Mácher is the first rural school on the island of Lanzarote where it is implemented. In Arrecife, it is carried out by the CEIP Capellanía del Yágabo, among the 12 in the entire Canary Islands, and the less than 40 that exist throughout the Spanish territory," they highlight from the City Council.

This educational model originated with the Jesuits of Durango in 1972, although Loli Anaut is considered the real promoter of the project that has been carried out since 1979 ("Globalization as a vital process of an open system"). This movement was declared a Center for Pedagogical Innovation by the Basque Government in 1990, which gave it the support it needed to publicize this model and implement it in a network of centers in the Basque Country. At the same time, an advisory group was created that has close relationships, not only with the nearly 40 centers that carry out the system but also with other autonomous communities such as the Canary Islands, Catalonia, Navarra, or Zaragoza. The Amara Berri system bases learning on the simulation of daily life, focusing on two axes: a globalized and open system, and the vital process. It promotes teamwork and the learning of each student through their daily life in the educational center.

The visit of the authorities of Tías coincided with the International Day of the Girl Child, which this year focuses on innovation for the education of girls.
