Coalición Canaria (CC) Lanzarote began this Thursday the process of renewing its local committees and did so in Teguise, where the Assembly, meeting at the Municipal Theater of the Villa, unanimously elected Javier Díaz as general secretary.

Díaz, who already held the position on a temporary basis since February 2024 after the resignation of Olivia Duque, mayor of the municipality, now officially assumes the leadership of the Local Committee of Teguise and La Graciosa. The event began with a minute of silence in memory of Juan Antonio de la Hoz and, by extension, of all the members and supporters of Coalición Canaria who are no longer with us.

During his speech, Javier Díaz expressed his gratitude to those who preceded him in the local leadership, especially the mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, “a faithful, generous, hard-working and loyal person”, and recalled with emotion the moment when the current president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Oswaldo Betancort, invited him to join the municipal lists in 2015, which began his political career.

He emphasized that his commitment to CC Teguise is based on “loyalty, empathy, perseverance and work, work, work”, values that -he added- he has reinforced in his experience as councilor and Secretary of Organization. “Coalición Canaria in Teguise is more than a party: it is a family. Our goal is to give a voice to each member and work with enthusiasm, closeness, humility and transparency to continue strengthening this project. We are the best option to govern because we are by the side of our people, in our towns, with commitment and feeling”, said Díaz in a speech full of memories, thanks and renewed enthusiasm.

“Noble in the fight”

The event brought together a large number of organic and institutional positions, including the general secretary of CC in Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés, who pointed out that “after the capital, Teguise is the municipality that most supports the electoral support of this organization to the Cabildo and the Parliament”. San Ginés addressed the local secretary directly, highlighting that “this is your moment, Javi; you are a noble man in the fight, so necessary in these times, and you have a fundamental role at the head of this committee, with the support of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo and the entire island organization”.

Finally, he made a call for unity and collective work: “We don't have a minute to lose; if we do it together, I have no doubt that with Olivia at the head we will once again be the first political force in Teguise and we will continue to improve people's lives”.

Also present were the deputy general secretary, Samuel Martín, and the secretary of Organization and mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque. The latter highlighted the figure of Javier Díaz, “a very important person within the government group, in whom I rely heavily on a daily basis and with whom, together, we will continue to develop the policies of Coalición Canaria; a party with open doors, born from municipalism and that has shown to govern with facts and solutions based on listening, working and showing its closeness to the people”.

In this sense, she stressed that “the committee that comes out of this assembly must be a space for enthusiasm, coordination and impulse, open to society”, and show itself as a “motor and guide to continue defending with force our political project based on identity, self-government, social justice and the pride of being Canarian”.

Also present were the deputy secretary of Organization, Abigail González; the deputy secretary of Territorial Action, Municipal and Organizational Coordination and secretary of Organization of the Nationalist Youth, Aroa Revelo; and the general secretary of the Nationalist Youth of Lanzarote, Maciot Cabrera, in addition to the local secretaries of the different committees.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Oswaldo Betancort, also spoke, congratulating Javier Díaz for his re-election as secretary of the Local Committee of CC in Teguise and La Graciosa, “a reference of our genuine way of governing”, he stressed. “I know his qualities well because he was part of the municipal government groups when I had the honor of being mayor” -he continued- “and since then I confirmed what I already sensed when I went to look for him: Javier is a humble, hard-working and close person, who has all the traits that a public servant of Coalición Canaria should have. His commitment to the people and his ability to listen make him a fundamental pillar of our political project, because wherever we govern we set an example of management, transparency and political praxis. We don't deceive anyone, we always go head-on and that way of doing politics is our true DNA, our muscle and what has allowed us to demonstrate with flying colors who we are and that we govern with the main objective of responding to the needs of the island by listening to the people”.

Also present at the Municipal Theater of Tequise were councilors of the Island Corporation, councilors of the government group of Teguise and representatives of other municipalities and political parties, in addition to a large group of neighbors, members and supporters.

A new team at the head of the Local Committee

In the leadership of the Committee, Javier Díaz will be accompanied by Myriam Jorge Camejo in the Local Deputy Secretariat, Adrián Villalba Robayna in the Secretariat of Organization, Julia Betancort Perdomo in the Deputy Secretariat of Organization, Marcial González Rodríguez in the Executive Secretariat of Internal Communication, Laura Martín Villalba in the Executive Secretariat of Organic Communication and Daniel Morales García in the Executive Secretariat of Communication and Political Strategy.
