Isidro Pérez, mayor of San Bartolomé, spoke this Friday on the program Buenos días, Lanzarote de Radio Lanzarote - Onda Cero to respond to the statements made by Jacobo Medina, vice president of the Island Council, who assured that "now the FDCAN funds are distributed equitably and without political preferences".

These FDCAN funds are a budget that the Government of the Canary Islands allocates to the municipalities of the islands and at the time it was agreed that the councils of each island would distribute it, and with respect to this, the mayor of San Bartolomé informed Jacobo Medina that they had not received 500,000 euros of that money.

According to Pérez, "in November 2023 they requested a project worth 611,000 euros and we sent them the project, but that's where the inconsistencies begin because they accept this project".

A signed report states that "the ERDF funds of the 'Molina a Molina' project should have been signed before December 31, 2023, but were signed on January 10, 2024", reveals the mayor. They did not sign it before the established date because there was no interdepartmental communication and, in addition, because of the Christmas holidays", he said.

"This leads us to the fact that of those 611,000 euros that we had left, they told us that we only correspond to 111,000 and I believe that the nervousness that Jacobo Medina, vice president of the Cabildo, has is because he was the one who signed that document", the mayor stated.

In addition, "another of the inconsistencies that Medina talks about is how he is transforming the municipality with different works, but those works belong to the previous legislature of President María Dolores Corujo. To this day, San Bartolomé has not received a single euro from the Cabildo in this legislature for works, and it is demonstrable", he stated.

Pérez also criticized the Cabildo for claiming the construction of the underpass of Playa Honda. "It is another of the works of the previous term when Ángel Víctor Torres was president of the Canary Islands Government".

Due to the claim of that half million euros that corresponds to the municipality, Pérez has assured that "next Monday we have an extraordinary plenary session for the administrative litigation that we are going to carry out for these 500,000 euros that the Socialist Party and the residents of San Bartolomé are taking away from us".

Another of the points that has most bothered the mayor is the lack of communication from the Cabildo and the Public Works Department itself. "The Cabildo of Lanzarote has not contacted the City Council to talk about managing it in another way", he criticized.

"We are going to continue working for our municipality, and the noise is covered up with actions such as the incorporation of the incorporation of six new agents of the Local Police of San Bartolomé or the injection of 300,000 euros to university students", the leader concluded.
