It's official. Lanzarote will enter phase 3 of the de-escalation next Monday, which is the last before reaching what the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, defined as "the new normality".
This has been confirmed this Friday by the Ministry of Health, when making public the list of provinces and islands that change phase. In the case of the Canary Islands, it will enter phase 3 completely, after the islands of La Graciosa, La Gomera and El Hierro have already advanced.
In total, according to the minister, 52% of the population of Spain, more than 24 million people, will be in phase three on Monday. The rest, including Madrid, will progress to phase 2.
The minister has also announced that next Tuesday the Council of Ministers will approve the royal decree that will lay the foundations for a new normality, which will be debated with the autonomous communities this afternoon in the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System.
Salvador Illa has also highlighted the "good functioning and effectiveness of the State of Alarm" and has thanked the citizens for "the effort and determination in complying with the strictest confinement in Europe and one of the strictest in the world." However, he has called for prudence in this final stretch of the de-escalation process, so as not to take steps backwards in the fight against COVID-19.
