The mayor of Haría, Marci Acuña, and the Councilor for Education, José Pérez Dorta, recently received the president of the Mercedes Medina Díaz Association, Juan Cruz, and the advisor in the municipality of Haría, Rafael Curbelo, as well as the two graduates who were awarded scholarships by the association, in order to inform them of the research and collection of material that they are carrying out throughout the municipalities to create the 'Documentary fund on the history of Education in Lanzarote and La Graciosa'.
This research and documentation project has been launched by the Mercedes Medina Díaz Association, in collaboration with the Data Center and the Digital Memory of Lanzarote project, which are part of the Cabildo, to collect all existing material related to education in Lanzarote and La Graciosa and safeguard its survival. To this end, a digital archive will be created to incorporate photographs, texts, films, documents, interviews with teachers and people from the world of teaching, writings, as well as other materials related to the history of education on the island.
The municipality of Haría has been one of the first places on the island where the fellows have started field work by conducting interviews with several retired teachers, who have contributed with their testimonies to shape the history of education in Lanzarote and La Gaciosa.
