They presented the pact that unites them after submitting this Thursday a motion of censure against the current mayor, José Francisco Reyes, although they did not want to give details about the responsibilities that each of the seven councilors that will form the government group will assume, nor about the policies they will carry out, although they have acknowledged that the economic problems and the urban situation of the municipality will be the two tough nuts to crack that they will face from February 5, the date on which the motion of censure will be voted on, and Gladys Acuña would be automatically proclaimed the new municipal mayor.

The PIL spokesperson has assured that in this agreement "there has been no bad intention" and both her party and CC, have not "wanted to go against the one who is still mayor personally", but she assures that after waiting a prudent time, eight months, for Reyes' PLN to seek a majority to give stability to the City Council and that it has finally not done so, PIL and CC decided to "use a totally democratic instrument", in this case the motion of censure.

"What has happened was simply a matter of time", added Leonardo Rodríguez, who understands the pact as an exercise of "responsible nationalism and to give stability to the municipality", words that have raised the applause of party colleagues and supporters present in the restaurant in which they have appeared. The one who, presumably, will be the new deputy mayor has promised that the attitude of the seven members of the future Government Group will be of "work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year".

Secrets until the key day

Both assure that they have "clear" the problems of the municipality and the policies they are going to follow during the almost three and a half years of legislature that are still ahead, as Gladys Acuña commented, provoking the smiles of the attendees. "Leonardo and I have had a long courtship and we have talked a lot before getting married in such a surprising way for some", but until the motion of censure is voted on, they have decided not to make public more details of the political future of Yaiza, after fourteen years of Reyes' mandate.

Leonardo Rodríguez has acknowledged that the economic situation and issues of an urban nature are the two key problems they face, although Rodríguez stated that they will not know "the situation exactly until we start, although the diagnosis now is bad". The CC spokesperson has assured that they will not continue "mortgaging the City Council as until now" and will "give a 180 degree turn to municipal policies", starting by commissioning an audit to know the real state of the municipal accounts and continuing with the problems caused by the granting of urban planning licenses outside the legality of José Francisco Reyes, since they will begin the mandate willing to meet with the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo to reach agreements and solve the problem.

PIL support for Jesús Machín

Together with Gladys Acuña and Leonardo Rodríguez, Antonio Hernández and the island president of CC, Mario Pérez, appeared, although the national leader José Torres Stinga was also among those present. Mario Pérez has declared his "support for this team, for these two young people" and has asked for a new applause for them.

Meanwhile, the president of the PIL spoke about the island policy answering questions about whether this pact that gives a new mayoralty to his party was "currency of exchange" with CC so that the islanders would give support to the candidate for the Senate, Jesús Machín. Hernández has flatly denied this extreme assuring that Machín's candidacy "has been agreed by both formations".

The president of the PIL has also declared that this pact does not affect other institutions in which they govern together with the PSOE. A pact with the socialists that he assures they will "continue to respect until they can".
