The general director of Attention to Drug Dependencies of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Gómez, has visited the facilities this Tuesday of the Lanzarote Drug Dependence Network together with the Minister of Health and Social Services, Joaquín Caraballo, and the director of Attention to Drug Dependencies, Rosa Torres.

Likewise, they have held a meeting with the president of the Cabildo, Manuela Armas, focused on the action against drug addiction, which has been the first contact between the regional and island administration, since the appointment of the new director two weeks ago.

During his visit to Lanzarote, Gómez said that he wanted to see "the exemplary treatment" that the Cabildo and its workers give to drug addicts. In addition, he has congratulated the Corporation, as well as Manuela Armas, for the Honorable Mention that the Queen Sofía awards against drugs have given to the Drug Dependence Care Center of Lanzarote, for the work "Normalization in a framework of drug dependence. The challenge of integration".

The awards will be presented on September 19 at the Palacio de la Zarzuela and the jury of the contest has awarded the project because it has the necessary resources for each of the phases of the treatment of drug addicts, such as the Care Unit, the Day Center and the Therapeutic Community. Likewise, the organization has dedicated a special mention to the resources that the center has for the labor integration of its patients.

This year the total cost of the drug dependence network has been 2,637,000 euros, of which 1,095,000 have been contributed by the Cabildo and 1,540,000 by the general directorate of Attention to Drug Dependencies of the Government of the Canary Islands. For the coming years, the president of the Cabildo hopes that the contribution of the Canary Islands Government will amount to 70 percent.

For her part, Rosa Torres has stated that "reality is always ahead of the attention that is given to drug addicts and we will always have things to improve, expand and overcome." Likewise, she has recognized that although the number of drug addicts in Lanzarote is important, the attention offered to them has stabilized. Finally, regarding the announcement of the eviction of La Rocar, Joaquín Caraballo has stated that the Cabildo will collaborate with the Arrecife City Council to offer alternatives to those who live there.
