The First Vice-President of the Government, María Teresa Fernández de la Vega, began a visit to the islands on Friday afternoon in Tenerife to learn about the effects caused by the passage of Tropical Storm Delta. Fernández de la Vega, who will visit Tenerife, La Palma and Gran Canaria between today and tomorrow, will meet with the authorities to assess the damage suffered on each island.
Fernández de la Vega arrives in Tenerife after participating in the Council of Ministers, in which a series of measures and aid were approved to alleviate the effects of the storm. The first meeting was with the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Adán Martín, in which she was informed of the situation facing the Islands, mainly the island of Tenerife, the most affected by the storm.
On Saturday, the First Vice President will meet at 8:30 a.m. with the mayors of Tenerife, at the Government sub-delegation, and later, at 9:15 a.m. at the same venue, with the presidents of the Tenerife and Gran Canaria councils, Ricardo Melchior and José Manuel Soria, respectively. After these meetings, she will hold a meeting with those responsible for electricity and telephone companies, which will take place at 9:45 a.m.
Almost two hours later, Fernández de la Vega will move to the Santa Cruz neighborhood of El Tablero, where she will meet with residents.
The following day, at 12:30 p.m., she will travel to the island of La Palma, where she plans to visit, around 2:45 p.m., the banana farms in the municipality of Puntallana, as well as a meeting with the mayors of the Island.
At 4:45 p.m., she will travel to Gran Canaria, an island where at 5:45 p.m. she plans to meet at the Government Delegation with the mayors and those responsible for the cooperatives and companies in the affected sectors, a meeting that will end her visit to the Canary Islands.
