The Department of Public Works of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has just initiated the procedures to proceed with the expropriation of the necessary land in order to execute what remains pending of the projects included in the 1st Road Plan. In this case, it refers to the adaptation and conditioning of the LZ-20 Tiagua-Tinajo, a modification of the original project that has an investment of almost five million euros (4,987,499.58 euros).

The planned works affect a total of 102 plots that together total 48,258 square meters, subject to expropriation. The estimated price by the technicians of the Experimental Farm and the Technical Office, being mostly classified as rustic, amounts to approximately 232,000 euros.

According to the Cabildo, the four kilometers of the LZ-20 Tiagua-Tinajo section affected by the works to be carried out "are configured as one of the most dangerous road straights on the island, with numerous traffic accidents, many of them fatal."

The changes in gradient, loss of layout and the existence of a row of palm trees on each side of the road seem to be the main dangers. The conditioning project is based, precisely, on the improvement of the road gradient, signage and beaconing; on its resurfacing; on the expansion of the margins and; in the conditioning of the margins with rofe.

"It was a demand and priority given the dangers of this road and the traffic that travels through it," says Councilor Fabián Martín, who hopes "to also unblock the works that are pending and that are paralyzed to conclude this Road Plan and be able to focus efforts on the second, which we are already shaping."

North-South Axis

"In the spirit of accelerating the processes that have been slowed down in recent years," the Cabildo points out that they plan to "hold a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands, Álvaro Dávila, in order to define the north-south road axis of Lanzarote."

The meeting with the Government of the Canary Islands, which will be attended by technicians from the Technical Office, the Environment Department and the Territorial Policy Department of the Cabildo, will take place this Wednesday, November 25, in Tenerife.
