The general secretary of the PSOE, Carlos Espino, will face this Wednesday a conciliation hearing with the lawyer Juana Fernández de las Heras, daughter of Felipe Fernández Camero. Espino will have to go to the Court of First Instance Number 2 at 11:00 a.m., after Fernández de las Heras decided to go to Justice as a result of statements made by the socialist about the "Reyes" case.
Fernández de las Heras demands that Espino retract, after he linked her, as the socialist recalled in an opinion letter this Tuesday, "with the surprising change in the statement of José Francisco Reyes, who acknowledged in an interrogation to have received money from several developers, citing them by name, and then recanting." According to Espino, Fernández de las Heras does not demand financial compensation, but only a retraction.
However, the general secretary of the Lanzarote socialists does not intend to rectify, because he considers that what he affirmed "corresponds to the truth." "I refuse to accept the gag that they intend to impose on me," he states in his opinion article.
Furthermore, he recalls that it is the Court of Instruction Number 2 itself that is investigating whether someone could have influenced Reyes' change of testimony. In fact, in September 2010, [the Court of Instruction Number 2 of Arrecife requested the Tahíche Penitentiary Center to send it the record of visits to José Francisco Reyes to find out if they pressured him to withdraw his initial confession.->44159] Specifically, the Court wanted to know who had a meeting in prison with the former mayor of Yaiza in the period between his first statement after being arrested, in which he confessed to having received money from several businessmen in exchange for the granting of illegal licenses, and his subsequent retraction.
This diligence was authorized on September 10, 2010 by the judge, and responded to a request from the prosecutor, Ignacio Stampa, who maintained that the lawyer of another defendant in the case could visit him in prison and "influence" him to change his testimony.
After Tahíche sent this record of visits to José Francisco Reyes, the Court learned that, who had had a meeting with the former mayor days before his retraction, [was the daughter and lawyer of Felipe Fernández Camero, Juana Fernández de las Heras.->44614] Camero's own defense tried to prevent this visit from being investigated, and [filed an appeal against the diligence ordered by the judge.->45052] However, this was rejected and failed to stop the investigation.
Therefore, Carlos Espino does not consider that he should retract and assures in an opinion article that he has sent to the media that "he will stand by his statements." "Let Juana Fernández de las Heras act accordingly," says the socialist.
