The Ministry of Equality has convened all autonomous communities and the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) to a crisis committee to address the increase in femicides in June, when six women and one minor have been murdered.
Next July 10, Equality will bring together all the communities, not only those in which gender violence murders have been perpetrated, with the aim that "all state instruments are on maximum alert and coordinated and oiled" to avoid new femicides, sources from Ana Redondo's department indicated this Thursday.
Likewise, all municipalities have been requested to join the VioGén police system for the protection of victims of gender violence.
Sources from Equality have underlined the need to address gender violence systematically "and from all fronts" and to reinforce all existing mechanisms to combat this male chauvinist abuse during the summer.
In addition, Redondo will meet soon with the Minister of Inclusion, Elma Saiz, to promote measures to better protect foreign victims, who present even greater vulnerability. Of the 17 fatal victims of gender violence in 2025, nine were foreign.
In a video statement, the Minister of Equality has insisted that "summer is a particularly dangerous time": "We are experiencing a terrible situation, but we know that the months of July and August are especially tragic," she said.
For that reason, she has asked the victims' environments to be "especially cautious", because "the alarm is real", and has asked them to call the 016 telephone number for help.
"We know that many times women cannot report because of the situation they live in of fear, terror, dependence, but the environments can: work environments, family, friends, those environments have 016 available," she stressed.
"We are reinforcing all the instruments available to the state to protect and safeguard the lives of women, but it is important not to lower our guard and that these environments are especially attentive when it comes to protecting and reporting the situation. When the situation is reported, the State and all the mechanisms are put into operation," she concluded.
The 016 attends to all victims of gender violence 24 hours a day and in 52 different languages, as does the email 016-online@igualdad.gob.es; attention is also provided via WhatsApp through the number 600000016, and minors can contact the ANAR Foundation telephone number 900 20 20 10.
In an emergency situation, you can call 112 or the telephone numbers of the National Police (091) and the Civil Guard (062) and if you cannot call you can use the ALERTCOPS application, from which an alert signal is sent to the Police with geolocation.
