The Security and Emergency Consortium has presented this Tuesday the seventh edition of the campaign This summer, safe dip, an initiative carried out in collaboration with the Mapfre Canarias Foundation and which aims to improve the safety of the coast in the summer months.

The presentation ceremony was attended by the president of the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium, Francisco Aparicio, accompanied by the coordinator of the Mapfre Canarias Foundation, Laura Ojeda, and the mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz Saavedra.

This initiative is necessary and we are pleased that it is celebrated one more year, because it must be remembered that in 2022 more than 60 people died on the coast of the Canary Islands, and more than 20 have done so in the first six months of 2023”, Aparicio emphasizes.

In relation to the main objective of the campaign, Francisco Aparicio has pointed out that it is “to make citizens aware of the common risks in the aquatic environment, as well as to teach the necessary guidelines to know how to detect and act in the face of this type of emergency situations”.

In this sense, and in order to raise awareness about this type of risk, the Consortium has organized different workshops on basic notions of drowning during the summer months, as well as other basic training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and PAS Behaviors. These workshops will be taught by the Emergency and Civil Protection Instructor Technician of the Directorate of the Lanzarote Health Area, with the help and collaboration of the members of the PFAE Project “Safe Beaches III” of the Tías City Council, as well as by volunteers from the different Civil Protection groups on the island.

This seventh edition of the campaign “This summer, safe dip” will be held for two days in each of the municipalities, as well as one day in La Graciosa, and will take place in different beaches and summer schools from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
