The government group of Teguise has responded to the "malicious information" that they believe the Popular Party has "launched", blaming the mayor and the sports councilor for the sports hall of the IES Costa Teguise being "underused".
In a statement, the PP described it as a "failure" and "deception" that the government group has not been able to sign an agreement with the Government of the Canary Islands so that this facility can be used by other children and young people in the town during non-school hours. However, the Councilor for Sports, Echedey Eugenio, assures that this agreement has existed since September 2012.
According to Eugenio, this agreement was signed with the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the FECAM, and all the facilities in Teguise, Arrecife and the rest of the Canary Islands are governed by it. However, if it is not being applied in Costa Teguise, according to the government group, it is because the Association of Parents has not complied with all the necessary procedures, including the contracting of insurance.
In this regard, the Councilor for Sports points out that according to this agreement, the AMPAS "have preference over the City Councils for the use of sports facilities" and, in this case, the Association of Parents of Costa Teguise "has presented a program of activities with different schedules, which does not allow freedom of hourly availability for the City Council and clubs outside this project".
"Even so", adds Eugenio, "the Department of Sports has made municipal personnel available to the AMPA and the center itself to be responsible for cleaning and maintaining the facilities two days a week, with the AMPA, as the applicant for the facilities, being the one who must control access to them during the hours in which its management is granted".
In addition, the government group explains that "in the last School Council, which the councilor of the area requested to attend, despite not being a member of it, an agreement was reached between the City Council, the management of the institute, the teaching team and representatives of the AMPA, to start operating the pavilion once the AMPA, as the requesting entity, presented the required documentation, especially the insurance that must be subscribed for this purpose".
However, "the City Council reiterates its intention to collaborate as far as it is in our power", declared the head of the area, Echedey Eugenio, who has requested the AMPA "a meeting with all the parties affected, as he has already done on previous occasions, so that the bureaucratic procedures are expedited and the facility can be used as soon as the deficiencies detected are corrected, thus guaranteeing the safety of the users of the activity and of the facilities themselves".
Finally, Echedey Eugenio has lashed out at the "irresponsibility shown" by the Popular Party "with its malicious and opportunistic criticisms". And the councilor "doubts" that "they obey the legitimate purpose of worrying about citizens, but rather, to instill falsehood and confusion among the residents, specifically, of the educational community of Costa Teguise, who fortunately, are aware of the current municipal situation, since we are in contact with them, responding to needs, suggestions and setbacks of the day to day".
