The Department of Public Works of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has initiated the relevant earthworks for the execution of the project to improve the LZ-20 road, in the section between Tiagua and Tinajo. While the works last, said road will remain closed to traffic until further notice, facilitating access to the town of Tinajo and surroundings through a secondary road that runs parallel to the municipal cemetery.
At this time, the old pavement is being removed to later execute the planned actions consisting of a substantial improvement of the slope, signage and beacons in the resurfacing, and in the expansion and conditioning of the road margins. As stated in the project, the two lanes will have a width of seven meters, each of them with 3.50 m, to which will be added 1.5 meters for each shoulder, which results in a total of 10 meters of road, where before there were only six.
Expropriations
On October 26, the procedures followed to expropriate 102 plots, more than 48,000 square meters necessary for the execution of the improvement project, will be completed. In total, 80 owners of the same are called to sign the occupation certificates by the Cabildo. As for the amount of the expropriations, it amounts to 232,000 euros.
"The pace of execution of the works meets the planned deadlines, despite the fact that the second phase of the project was delayed until the Los Dolores festivities were over. So we hope that if there are no unforeseen events, the road will reopen in the first months of next year," said the Minister of Public Works of the Cabildo, who believes that "this project eliminates one of the black spots of the Lanzarote road network, as this is one of the most conflictive roads due to the number of changes in slopes and the narrow width of the same".
