Decree 178/2008, of July 29, which approves the Provisional Catalog of Job Positions of the General Corps of the Canary Police, which contemplates the creation of 300 positions during the period 2008-2010, between police officers and commanders, came into effect this Wednesday.
Of that figure, 123 positions will be created this year, according to the Ministry of the Presidency, Justice and Security in a statement.
Of the 261 positions planned to be created in the Basic scale, 193 correspond to the Operational Resources Unit (URO), of which 163 will be police officers and 20 officers. The remaining 68 positions correspond to the Mobile Brigade (BRIMO), with 60 police officers and 8 officers.
Within the Executive scale, 24 positions will be created, of which 18 will be assigned to URO (6 inspectors and 12 sub-inspectors) and 6 to BRIMO (2 inspectors and 4 sub-inspectors).
Finally, the catalog published yesterday in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) provides for the creation of 15 positions in the Superior scale of the Corps, of which 9 correspond to URO (3 commissioners and 6 sub-commissioners) and 3 to BRIMO (1 commissioner and 2 sub-commissioners). Another 2 Chief Commissioners and 1 Chief Commissioner complete this catalog.
In the informative note, the Ministry recalls that the implementation of the General Corps of the Canary Police will be carried out in two phases. In the first (2009-2011), the Government of the Canary Islands will create an Operational Resources Division, composed of 300 specialized personnel who will support the Local Police, and later, in a second stage (2011-2020), carry out the territorial deployment of that Corps until reaching 1,700 personnel, which must necessarily have the financing of the State.
The Operational Resources Division, which will be created this year, will be composed of two units: Operational Resources and Mobile Brigades.
The first of these will be formed by members of the General Corps of the Canary Police, who will develop the functions and ordinary services that correspond to said Corps.
MOBILE BRIGADES
For their part, the Mobile Brigades will be composed of police officers who will act throughout the territory of the Autonomous Community, mainly in cases of prevention and danger of alteration of citizen security, characterized by specialty, mobility and versatility.
The latter will in turn have four specialized units (Intervention, Protection, Investigation and Information and Rescue and Mountain) that will be created in 2009 and 2010. Until then, all the personnel that make up the Mobile Brigade will develop the functions corresponding to the aforementioned specialized units.
This catalog, which is provisional until the Job Position List of the General Corps of the Canary Police is approved, contemplates the number of personnel, employment and any other circumstances necessary for the effective implementation of this police force.
The next step after the approval of this Catalog will be the publication of the Public Employment Offer of these positions in the month of September and the immediate call for oppositions of 60 basic scale positions and the competition of merits and specific for those who come from other security forces.
The forecast of the Government of the Canary Islands is that the different competitions will be resolved in December of this year, which will allow the incorporation of these personnel in January 2009. For their part, the police officers who pass the opposition will begin their training period in April 2009 until December of the same year.
