Motorhomes in Lanzarote

Ciudadanos has demanded that the Cabildo of Lanzarote "address the needs of motorhome users and give them a solution to the lack of camping spaces."

"The shortage of facilities means that this group is scattered throughout the island, sometimes generating incidents between users, administrations and even neighbors," argues the formation, after the eviction of motorhomes registered during Holy Week in Papagayo. In addition, it adds that the lack of specific regulation in the PIOT leaves motorhomes in a kind of limbo."

In this regard, Ciudadanos points out that "the Traffic Safety Law allows them to park their vehicles for a short period of time, as long as they do not camp," that is, "spend the day and night without deploying awnings, advances, chairs or tables beyond the vehicle itself."

"The motorhome community, which has a large presence in Lanzarote, asks that there be at least one place on the island where they can legally camp, as well as spaces and services adapted to their needs, with ecological points to empty gray and black water, and to be able to recharge the vehicles with clean water," say from Ciudadanos.

In this sense, they declare that "the activities of motorhome users are safe with respect to anti-covid measures," since "in most cases they are family units that live inside the vehicle."

For all these reasons, the orange formation has asked the Cabildo to "create areas enabled to park and stay overnight in different parts of the island," in order to "offer a service to this group and have greater control over the activity,"

Likewise, they insist that "there must be political will to find a solution to the needs of motorhome users," because "it is a group that promotes local tourism, revitalizes small and medium-sized businesses in the towns it visits, and complements the tourist destination."
