The Crime Report in Spain published by the Ministry of the Interior, with figures from the first three quarters of this 2025, reflects that Arrecife has become one of the Spanish municipalities where criminal offenses have decreased the most. This significant drop in the capital of Lanzarote counteracts the increases registered in the municipalities of Teguise and Tías

The Interior Ministry is analyzing data in municipalities with over 20,000 inhabitants where, across the island of Lanzarote, criminal offenses have decreased by 4.3%, while in Arrecife the drop has been 2.3%

The Ministry of the Interior analyzes in its latest report the data between January and September of this 2025, where Tías leads criminality with a 10.5% increase followed by Teguise with a 10.1% increase. On the other hand, Arrecife has managed to substantially reduce this criminality by 2.3% compared to the 2022/2025 period.

Crime reports in Spain, published quarterly, provide crime balances that show general data on conventional crime and cybercrime, in addition to breaking down offenses by municipality in periodic reports. The Ministry of the Interior publishes crime data at the national and municipal levels. These reports detail the total number of criminal offenses, broken down into conventional crime and cybercrime.

In Arrecife, according to these reports from the Ministry of the Interior, citizen security has already significantly improved. This is highlighted by the official statistics for the cumulative first half of 2025, where Arrecife has reduced criminal offenses by 7.7% and crimes classified as conventional criminality have decreased by 4.6%

The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, directly responsible for the Local Police, has emphasized that "the improvement of these indicators, which bring greater citizen security to the capital, is reflected in the constant raids by the Local Police in sensitive areas, increased presence with unmarked cars in critical points, and the anti-squatting initiative deployed by the City Council, which are allowing for a reduction in crime, as confirmed by data from the Ministry of the Interior.

The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has thanked the close collaboration of the Local Police with the National Police in multiple deployments, and in the improvement of citizen security with a greater presence in the sensitive points of the city, which already exceeds 70,000 inhabitants.

De León has announced that the Local Police will be reinforced in the coming months with the incorporation of more officers with the announcement of positions in this year's 2025 OPE, plus the arrival of officers from the Regional Police with the transfer of some facilities from the Arrecife City Council for their deployment on the island. An administrative transfer that gained momentum with the plenary agreement in August, which will allow the Canary Islands Police to use the old building that housed the Local Police.
