The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, has received with “enthusiasm and hope” the decrease in the number of unemployed registered in the Offices of the Public Employment Services of the archipelago, which is below the barrier of 200,000 people for the first time since 2008.
“These figures confirm the success of the measures adopted by the Government of the Canary Islands, presided over by Ángel Víctor Torres, and the speed with which they materialized to face the recovery of the archipelago after going through the two worst years of contemporary history”, Corujo highlighted.
In Lanzarote, unemployment decreased during the month of April by 511 people, 4.77% compared to the month of March, standing at 10,203 unemployed, according to data from the Canary Islands Employment Observatory. This figure also represents an interannual decrease of 48.74%.
“The reopening of Lanzarote to tourism as a safe and reliable destination, the shock plans, the reintegration and diversification policies activated together with the Government of the Canary Islands and the increase in permanent hiring thanks to the Labor Reform adopted by the Central Government contribute to explaining the decrease of almost 1,000 people from the unemployment lists of Lanzarote during the first quarter of 2022
