Unemployment falls to 10,203 people in April in Lanzarote, 511 fewer unemployed than in March

In the archipelago as a whole, unemployment fell below 200,000 people for the first time in 14 years

Unemployment continues to fall in Lanzarote, with a total of 10,203 unemployed, that is, 511 fewer unemployed than in March, which represents a decrease of 4.7%, according to the figures published by the Canarian Employment Service this Wednesday.

If compared with April 2021, the fall is much greater, up to 48.74%, when there were 9,700 more unemployed, with a total of 19,903 people.

It should be noted that all municipalities have experienced a decrease compared to the month of March. Currently, in the capital of Lanzarote there are 5,386 people registered as job seekers. It is followed by San Bartolomé with 1,125, Teguise with 1,124 and Tías with 1,075. For their part, the north and south of the island are the areas with the fewest unemployed, with 769 people in Yaiza, 387 in Tinajo and 334 in Haría.

Regarding the profile of the unemployed, the figures increase as the age of the person increases. Specifically, the youngest are the ones with the least unemployment, with only 96 unemployed under 20 years of age and 406 from 20 to 24. On the contrary, the older age groups, such as the range of 55 to 59, reach 1684 people.

In addition, women are the group with the highest unemployment, with 5,843 unemployed women compared to 4,360 men.

Canary Islands falls below 200,000 unemployed for the first time in 14 years

The archipelago fell, for the first time since November 2008, below the barrier of 200,000 unemployed in the month of April, with 198,981 unemployed, thus confirming the forecasts of the Government of the Canary Islands.

This is a decrease of 83,542 people (62.11% less) compared to the previous year, making Canary Islands the second autonomous community with the largest decrease in year-on-year terms, only behind the Balearic Islands.

In addition, it should be noted that more than half of the registered agreements are indefinite in the archipelago, specifically 53.08% of the 61,479 contracts.

Meanwhile, the number of affiliates grows by 8.53% in year-on-year terms, with 839,049 people in April. For its part, the number of affiliates in the Self-Employed Regime has managed to break records, with 135,583 people, the highest number in the entire historical series.

Finally, it should be noted that the unemployed in the hospitality sector have decreased by 45.40% compared to 2021, and 309.36% more contracts have been signed.
