The Yaiza Town Council has trained the first three Civil Protection volunteers as drone pilots in order to improve rapid and professional intervention in emergency situations. The council has considered this advance important given the orographic characteristics of the municipality and the growth of the resident and floating population. The southern Group stands out for its collaboration with security and emergency forces in rescue tasks.

The mayor, Óscar Noda, maintains that “the training program we are developing with the Group is as important as the provision of technical resources”, noting “that our gratitude to the Civil Protection volunteers will always be insufficient.”

Óscar Noda, the Councilor for Citizen Security of Yaiza, Beatriz Vázquez, and the Civil Protection coordinator, Pedro Manuel García, presented the diplomas to the new professional pilots this Friday. “The course we have offered is complete and approved because, in addition to everything that the operation of an unmanned aerial system implies, specific training in advanced communications is also necessary, an essential requirement to be able to operate in a controlled airspace,” explains Councilor Beatriz Vázquez.

The volunteers attended face-to-face theoretical classes and completed hours of practice tests in a real flight simulator before moving on to field exercises using different types of aircraft. The Yaiza Town Council also trains local police officers as drone pilots.
