The Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa organized this Monday, October 27, the II Solidarity Gala with the Third Sector under the heading ‘Embracing Diversity’. During the event, the work of twelve island associations was recognized, which received financial contributions from fifteen companies, intended entirely to support their work in the island's fabric.

The contributions from the companies present were given to the associations Calor y Café, AFOL, Mararía, Flora Acoge, ALANEM, AFIBROLAN, Sentirte, Esperanza y Vida, APSAL, La Vida Zuaina, AFACODA, and Manos que no dais. These organizations work in areas such as care for the homeless, support for cancer patients, support for neurodivergent people, assistance to victims of gender violence, addictions, care for vulnerable families, or inclusion of the deaf community, among other social needs.

Praising the traditional gastronomy of Lanzarote

In addition to its charitable purpose, the evening served to highlight the island's gastronomic heritage with a tasting menu inspired by the book Cocina Tradicional de Lanzarote, by Fefo Nieves Caraballo. The publication, edited by the Cabildo, includes 164 recipes that are part of the island's culinary memory, and which served as a reference for creating a gastronomic proposal based on the flavors and traditions of popular island cuisine.

Six chefs from various restaurants in Lanzarote joined six others from the Centers of Art, Culture, and Tourism (CACT) to reinterpret traditional dishes in duets and four hands. This collaboration allowed for new versions of dishes linked to the customs and cultural identity of Lanzarote, which have been part of the diet of several generations on the island. The event featured prestigious names in island gastronomy, including chefs such as Pedro Santana, José Manuel Gil, Iván Dini, David Alayón, Maikel López, Ángel Morales, Orlando Ortega, Pedro García, Germán Blanco, Natividad del Pino, Gonzalo Calzadilla, and Nicolás Appleby, joined by Jessica Morales, Arany Ramos, and Ayoze Luis to sweeten the tables.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted “the involvement and work of social entities, professionals, and companies that work or collaborate with the Third Sector, emphasizing that we have a society willing to collaborate so that no one is left behind”. He emphasized that “from the institutions we must continue to favor this participation and cooperate so that the prosperity of Lanzarote and La Graciosa also translates into opportunities and well-being for those who need it most”.

For her part, the vice-president of the Cabildo and counselor of the Centers of Art, Culture, and Tourism (CACT), María Jesús Tovar, highlighted that “events like this show that corporate social responsibility works”. Thus, she encouraged all those involved, and society in general, to continue advancing in a line of work that allows creating bridges between the business fabric and the Third Sector, to connect the entire island community through a virtuous cycle.

For his part, the counselor for Social Welfare and Inclusion, Marci Acuña, pointed out that Third Sector associations perform an essential task by supporting people and families going through particularly difficult situations: “they know their needs closely and offer care that goes far beyond material resources. This initiative represents support for that daily work and highlights the importance of continuing to cooperate closely to strengthen the social care network of Lanzarote and La Graciosa”.

The ‘II Gala of Solidarity’ concluded with the recognition of companies, professionals, and organizations whose collaboration made possible an initiative that combines economic support for the third sector with the dissemination of the Island’s gastronomic heritage.
