The Nationalist Group (CC-PNC) in the Arrecife City Council proposes, through a motion that will be debated in the next plenary session of the Corporation, the need for the capital's Consistory to increase spending on “Social Services and Social Promotion” until reaching the sum of 6.5 million euros, equivalent to an investment of 100 euros per inhabitant/year, in the budget for the year 2021.

“We believe that it is time to make commitments and make decisions to improve things and abandon the policy of passing the buck and always looking back to enter the game of 'you more' that citizens are already somewhat tired of,” says nationalist councilor Abigail González.

And being the fifth city in the rate of Covid infections after the Christmas holidays or being among the cities considered precarious in social matters by the Association of directors and managers of social services at the tail of the 284 municipalities in Spain with more than 20,000 inhabitants, are situations that, CC-PNC insists, must be reversed urgently.

“It is a vital job to improve the well-being of our neighbors and our municipal group is once again available to the government group, even more so when its mayor is totally absent, more concerned about what is happening outside the city than about the needs of the people of Arrecife,” says nationalist councilor Rosmen Quevedo.

Thus, in its motion, CC-PNC requests that part of those 6.5 million euros that they demand for social investment be used for the hiring of new personnel that allows attending in a timely manner the demands and needs of citizens and groups, and that allows reducing the response times of the Administration and, therefore, the execution of these items.

To achieve these objectives, the nationalists also consider necessary the creation of an independent economic body attached to the municipal Intervention that is solely responsible for social issues in economic matters, thus favoring agility and unblocking the General Intervention.

Likewise, promoting new lines of aid and extraordinarily increasing the number and annual amount, attending to new vulnerability profiles such as people in ERTE or those who for health reasons have seen their income reduced, is part of the CC-PNC proposal to improve the dramatic socio-economic situation that many families are experiencing at this time.

Finally, they emphasize that, in addition, for all this to materialize, it will be necessary to work on the implementation of the necessary technology to guarantee the financial transparency of the service as well as the telematization of the procedures, betting on the responsible declaration, verified later, as a method, within the current legality, to expedite the granting of aid of all kinds.
