CC Lanzarote blames PSOE and PP for the lack of agreement on the distribution of migrant minors

"And now we start 2025 in the same way, regretting not being able to attend to these human beings in the conditions they deserve, given the contempt shown to the Canary Islands by the Government of Pedro Sánchez and the unacceptable attitude of the PP," says Machín

Coalición Canaria (CC) Lanzarote regrets the arrival this Friday, January 3, of the first boats of the year to the island, while "the Socialist Party (PSOE) and the Popular Party at the state level, continue without providing solutions to the migratory crisis that the Archipelago has been suffering for years".

The first of these boats arrived in the early hours of the morning, with 57 people on board, including two pregnant women and two minors; the second, mid-morning, with 55 people including five women.

In this sense, the island secretary of CC, Migdalia Machín, considers it "reprehensible that both state parties, embroiled in their political wars originating in Madrid, disregard both the thousands of human beings who risk their lives for a better future and the Canarian population, which sees how its institutions are absolutely overwhelmed by the inconceivable lack of help from the State".

"We ended 2024 receiving seven boats in a single day with 660 migrants on board, risking their lives on the so-called Atlantic Route, the most dangerous of the migratory journeys in which nearly 10,000 people lost their lives last year alone. And now we start 2025 in the same way, regretting not being able to attend to these human beings in the conditions they deserve, given the contempt shown to the Canary Islands by the Government of Pedro Sánchez and the unacceptable attitude of the PP blocking a solidarity distribution of unaccompanied minors among all the Autonomous Communities," explains the island secretary of CC in Lanzarote.

Likewise, the nationalist leader recalls the alternative proposed by Fernando Clavijo, president of the Government of the Canary Islands, who advocates approving a decree law to allow the extraordinary and punctual distribution of unaccompanied minors among all the Autonomous Communities, without the need to modify the Immigration Law. Clavijo has stressed that this measure, supported by formations such as the PNV and Junts, seeks to alleviate the pressure on the islands, while regretting that the PSOE has blocked any progress in this direction, leaving the Canary Islands alone in the face of an unprecedented migratory crisis.
