Farmer Karliana José Aguilera, a member of the Association of Professional Farmers of Lanzarote (APROLAN), has been selected as a finalist for the XII National Young Farmer Award 2026, organized by the Agrarian Association of Young Farmers (ASAJA).
The awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, November 5, at the Palace of Fairs and Congresses of Malaga (FYCMA), within the framework of the XII National Congress of Young Farmers, which will take place during Expo AgriTech 2026. The event is scheduled between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM and will bring together representatives from the national agricultural sector.
Karliana Aguilera carries out her activity in the municipality of Yaiza, where she has launched a project linked to the cultivation and commercialization of Lanzarote sweet potato. Through her brand Batatas Roferas, she is committed to adding greater value to this traditional product of island agriculture, through a specific selection of small-sized sweet potatoes intended, among other uses, for preparation wrinkled, similar to potatoes.
Her entrepreneurial career has already received various recognitions. In 2025, her project was recognized in the Tierra de Oportunidades program, promoted by CaixaBank and the Association for Rural and Fisheries Development of Lanzarote (ADERLAN). More recently, in June 2026, she was honored as a young farmer during the V Fair of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries of Teguise.
The National Young Farmer Award, which reaches its twelfth edition this year, recognizes initiatives promoted by farmers and ranchers under 40 years of age. The awards include three categories: best digital project, best energy efficiency, and best social commitment. Among the awarded projects, the Young Farmer of the Year 2026 will be chosen, who will represent Spain at the European Congress of Young Farmers, scheduled for November 18 in Brussels.
APROLAN particularly values that one of its members has reached the final stage of a national recognition of this nature, giving visibility to the work carried out by Lanzarote farmers and the entrepreneurial possibilities linked to the island's traditional products.
APROLAN will accompany and support Karliana Aguilera on her trip to Malaga to participate in the ceremony, with the support of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, in which her candidacy will share prominence with other agricultural initiatives from different parts of Spain. APROLAN considers that this nomination is also an opportunity to make Lanzarote's agriculture, its products, and the work of a new generation of professionals who are committed to developing their activity in the field known outside the Canary Islands. Likewise, Karliana's journey is an example for the young people of Lanzarote and a demonstration of the opportunities that agriculture offers to promote generational change, continue working the land, and undertake new projects in the sector.
