Coalición Canaria held a meeting with more than thirty representatives of the Cultural Association of Deaf People of Lanzarote (ASCULSORLANZ), with the aim of learning about their demands and analyzing their opinion on the policies developed by the institutions of Lanzarote.

The candidate for the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Mario Pérez, the candidate for the presidency of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Inés Rojas, and the candidate for the mayoralty of Arrecife, María Isabel Déniz, pledged to give way to demands that, according to Rojas, "are entirely fair and coherent".

The nationalist candidate for the Island Corporation, who is familiar with this problem, according to CC, stated that "from the Cabildo of Lanzarote we will work to achieve the full integration of all those people, with some type of disability, in society. It seems incredible that in such an advanced society, many continue to look at us as strange people, and that feeling must be completely eradicated".

100% Commitment

Both Mario Pérez and Inés Rojas pledged to fight for hearing aids to have a 100% subsidy, given that "the vast majority of people cannot afford it", according to Pérez. "Together we must work to ensure that achieving a just society, and equal rights among people, is not a luxury that many give up", said Pérez.

The group of deaf people of Lanzarote also conveyed to the leaders of Coalición Canaria the need to renew, as quickly as possible, the agreements signed between the Cabildo, City Councils and Association, achieving the express commitment of Inés Rojas to not only renew it, but improve it during the next legislature.

Improve professional opportunities

Another of the demands transferred by the group focuses on the professional opportunities they have and, mainly, on the problems they have when accessing training courses, as there are no suitable teachers who know sign language.

On the other hand, the president of Coalición Canaria of Lanzarote, and candidate for the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Mario Pérez, presented to the National Organization of the Blind of Spain in Lanzarote (O.N.C.E.), the political program of the nationalists, with more than 1,100 proposals, in Braille, which uses raised dots and dashes on cardboard.

According to Mario Pérez, it is "an informative support so that all those people who wish to do so, can know the party's project, without any impediment, and facilitate the task of reading and writing for the blind". Pérez stated that "with these formats we want to reach all areas of the population, without any distinction or discrimination".
