Ciudadanos (Cs) has presented a motion to urge the Cabildo and the government team to "process with diligence and speed all requests for legalization of vacation homes made, especially in the tourist areas of Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise and Yaiza." The request comes after the ruling issued by the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands, which partially annuls the decree approved by the Government of the Canary Islands and eliminates the prohibition of vacation homes in the tourist areas of the archipelago. "The ruling is clear and forceful," emphasizes the Cs councilor in the Corporation, Benjamín Perdom.
In this regard, Perdomo recalls that "the need to regulate vacation homes has already been debated on other occasions in the Plenary of the Cabildo." However, he regrets that "the Corporation continues to put obstacles to the legalization of this tourist modality on the island." Therefore, the councilor has pointed out that "the Cabildo of Lanzarote can no longer make excuses or look the other way," so "it must expedite the procedures so that those people who request it can regularize their situation as soon as possible," so that in this way "the TSJC ruling is complied with."
The Cs councilor considers that "the tourist offer should not be limited nor should the freedom of enterprise be infringed," and has assured that "in Lanzarote there is room and demand for this type of accommodation to coexist with the hotel industry."
