The Councilor for Transportation of the Arrecife City Council, Lorenzo Lemaur, has met again this Friday with representatives of the municipal bus strike committee to study the different positions regarding the indefinite strike by bus drivers since last Wednesday.
For the moment, according to the capital city councilor, "no fruitful agreement has been reached that puts an end to this strike", so both parties will meet again next Friday. Meanwhile, the capital's City Council has guaranteed compliance with the minimum services.
According to reports from the City Council, the representatives of the municipal bus workers "have not presented any allegations to the specifications at any time", but "have requested the mixed management of the municipal service of urban transport". However, Lorenzo Lemaur, has responded that "the decision of the City Council has been studied, meditated and, therefore, is irreversible".
Public tender
The capital city councilor has also recalled that this same Friday the public tender for the indirect management of the Arrecife bus service has been published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas.
Lemaur has made it clear that "the intention of the government group of the Arrecife City Council is not to privatize the municipal bus service, as they indicate in the strike call". Thus, he has clarified that, "although a specialized company will take charge of collective urban transport, the Arrecife buses will continue to be a public service".
In this way, he explained that both the rates, as well as the route and the different stops will be established by the Department of Transportation of the Arrecife City Council.
