The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Island Water Council, Oswaldo Betancort, has celebrated the signing of the regulatory agreement for the financing and construction, delivery, reception and environmental monitoring of the modernization and consolidation works of the irrigation systems of the Island Water Council of Lanzarote.

This agreement, signed by Oswaldo Betancort García, as president of the Island Water Council of Lanzarote, and Francisco Rodríguez Mulero, as president of the State Society of Agricultural Infrastructures (SEIASA), represents an investment for irrigation of 24.4 million euros for the municipalities of Tinajo and Teguise, thanks to which the 14.4 million that had been lost in the previous legislature for the northeast area of the island are recovered.

Oswaldo Betancort has highlighted the importance of this recovery of funds, emphasizing that the work, which initially had a budget of 14.12 million euros, will now have a significantly larger investment. In addition, he has announced that a meeting will be held to define the details and deadlines for the execution of the project, which is scheduled to be completed by June 2026.

It should be remembered that the loss of funds in the second phase was not due to the lack of response from the previous officials of the Cabildo of Lanzarote to the requirements of SEIASA and the Government of the Canary Islands to sign the previous agreement. “For this reason, it is so important that the agreement has finally been signed that will allow a significant advance with respect to the previous management of the Cabildo by the socialist group and that will address with responsibility and commitment a historical demand of the agricultural sector of Lanzarote, in this case, of the municipalities of Tinajo and Teguise,” concluded Betancort.
