Oswaldo Betancort states that he was forced this Friday to postpone his appearance regarding the investments in water matters planned by the Institution, after the opposition councilors intentionally abandoned the plenary session, preventing the normal development of the debate.
The Governing Group, made up of CC, PP, and the councillor of the Mixed Group, Armando Santana, reproaches the "lack of respect" for the figure of the vice president of the Cabildo on the part of the Socialist Party councillors themselves, who, despite continually proclaiming themselves as defenders of feminism, have demonstrated just the opposite by being absent precisely at the moment when the session was being chaired by a woman, María Jesús Tovar, a gesture they consider an institutional and personal disregard towards a person who legitimately exercises her functions of directing the Plenary.
After the deliberate absence of the opposition members, Oswaldo Betancort, after granting more than a reasonable time for the opposition members to rejoin the plenary session, decided to continue with the session "in an exercise of responsibility and commitment to the citizens," managing to approve issues of general interest for the islands of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, including several related to social welfare and subsidies in the area of security and animal welfare," they say from the institution.
"The Cabildo of Lanzarote cannot halt its work due to partisan attitudes or spectacles unbecoming of those who represent a large part of the citizenry in the island's foremost Institution," stated the president, who emphasizes that his desire is to provide transparent and detailed explanations regarding investments in water matters, an issue that, he assures, "will be addressed in a new session with the rigor and seriousness it deserves."
The Government Group insists that the political debate should focus on the general interest, not on confrontational strategies, and reiterates its commitment to the efficient management of water resources and the improvement of essential public services for the citizens of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
