The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, has congratulated the State Security Forces and Corps for the intervention carried out on the morning of this Monday, October 30 in two of the main centers of irregular occupation of homes in Costa Teguise.
The operation, carried out in the Senator apartments and in another complex located next to Playa Bastián, resulted in three arrests and 31 complaints, 28 for illegal occupation. Among those arrested, as La Voz already reported, were an immigrant without proper documentation and two people who were arrested for resisting authority during the operation, in which 32 members of the Civil Guard and the Local Police participated.
"We appreciate the device launched by both Security Forces, which responds to an imperative demand from the residents of the town of Costa Teguise," said the mayor. "A few days ago we shared, through an Extraordinary Security Board, what measures could be taken to alleviate this situation, and as of today, both the Civil Guard and the Local Police have fulfilled their work for the benefit of citizens in general. We are aware that the illegal occupation suffered by some homes in Costa Teguise has been monitored, and that surveillance has been increased in several conflictive points, in response to repeated complaints from residents regarding the harmful coexistence and the dangerous situation," he added.
"At the municipal level, our hands are tied to be able to stop illegal occupations in private properties, which, in addition to tremendously affecting the residents of said occupied homes, contribute to the deterioration of the image of the tourist town," reiterated the mayor, who urged the State Security Forces and Corps "to continue with their presence and pressure on the offenders, while the owners or justice do not put an end to the conflict".
