The Arrecife City Council plans to comprehensively renovate Pérez Galdós Street in the capital throughout the coming year 2024, from the Cuatro Esquinas area (next to the Charco de San Ginés) to Vía Medular, near the Valterra Health Center. Thus, seven engineering studies have been submitted to the council's competition to draft the transformation project for this road that connects the open commercial area of the capital with other neighborhoods.

The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has highlighted that this action will connect the neighborhoods of Los Alonso, Valterra and El Lomo with the city center, through the comprehensive transformation of this road, known since its origins as the old road of La Villa. The engineering study that is awarded the contract for drafting the technical project must contemplate the creation of shaded areas along the street with the planting of trees and elimination of architectural barriers so that the new sidewalks are accessible.

The Department of Mobility and Transportation of the capital's City Council, led by Councilor Mario González Altube, put out to tender on November 17 the competition for the Drafting of the Comprehensive Renovation and Recovery Project for Pérez Galdós Street, to which seven engineering studies have been submitted. Now, in this month of December, the proposals submitted are being analyzed to determine the awarded firm, according to the technical specifications.

Councilor Mario González Altube has stated that during this term "municipal actions have urban mobility as one of their central axes." Several buildings listed by Heritage for their historical or architectural value are located on Pérez Galdós Street, and its layout has been part of Arrecife since its origins as a port, city and capital. In old documents it was called the old road of the Villa de Teguise, the old capital of Lanzarote. Due to its location, Pérez Galdós Street is a 'natural part' of the extension of Calle Real, an area where the City Council is planning other important actions in its surroundings to be carried out during this term.

Currently, the City Council has a series of works underway to transform the urban image of the city. These works are being carried out in the neighborhoods of Argana Alta (Calle Tenderete), in the area of La Destilla (Calle Canalejas and Manolo Millares) and the area of El Reducto, on the maritime front of the capital of Lanzarote.

Yonathan de León has highlighted that throughout 2024 the Government group he presides over will continue to "lead new transformative investments in different areas of Arrecife", in a prominent way to connect the neighborhoods and unite them towards the center, where the city was born and founded.

The mayor has added that in the coming weeks new competitions will be announced to continue carrying out urban transformation actions that are in line with the strategic line of connecting the center to other neighborhoods of Arrecife.

Thus, he has emphasized that with the comprehensive urban regeneration of the streets, Arrecife is revitalized as a place to reside, with criteria of accessibility, modernization of services and urban image, favoring local commerce, leisure and healthy city life.
