The Department of Social Welfare of the Arrecife City Council, led by Maite Corujo, launches a new service contract for food care and social support focused on substantially improving the conditions of the social canteen that serves the most vulnerable people in the municipality. The initiative incorporates fundamental advances that "reflect the municipal commitment to the well-being, dignity and inclusion of all users," they point out from the Consistory.

Maite Corujo highlights that "with this new contract we are taking a step forward in social care, expanding resources and services so that those who access the social canteen find not only food, but also personalized support and more humane and welcoming living spaces."

Among the most relevant improvements, the availability of showers in the facilities has been included, facilitating a much healthier environment and favoring daily coexistence. "The showers are essential to reinforce the dignity of our users and improve coexistence. Daily hygiene is a basic right, and now it is a reality in the Arrecife social canteen," emphasizes the councilor.

In addition, the staff has been reinforced by increasing the number of professionals, including the figure of a specialized educator, to provide more comprehensive care. "We want our users to have all the possible professional support and that is why we have demanded more staff, especially technical profiles such as educators, who will accompany and advise them during their stay," adds Corujo.

The new contract also integrates, for the first time, the home delivery of menus, expanding access to the service to people with mobility difficulties or who cannot travel to the canteen. This service, which was previously offered voluntarily by external entities, becomes a stable and guaranteed part of the municipal contract. "It is not enough to have a social canteen, we must reach every corner where there is a need, and that is why we take the best possible menu directly to homes," says the head of the Area.

Regarding the quality of food, the contract requires that the menus be personalized, taking into account intolerances, religious and nutritional preferences, ensuring an adequate response to the diversity of those who use the service.

Maite Corujo concludes: "Arrecife sets an example in the Canary Islands. We improve menus, introduce basic services such as showers, expand the professional team and guarantee that no one is excluded due to difficulty in traveling. We have launched an ambitious contract thinking about each person and their integral well-being."

The base budget for the tender exceeds 616,000 euros, with an estimated total value of more than two million euros to ensure, for at least one extendable year, that all these advances are a reality within the reach of the most needy in the municipality.
