The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, is reinforcing the presence of Local Police officers in the neighborhoods with constant patrols. Within this commitment of the Municipal Government to strengthen security, during this month of May these police patrols are already felt daily in different areas of the capital of Lanzarote.
The mayor, who is also the direct head of the Local Police Department, requests the collaboration of citizens to notify the Local Police of situations they detect that should be investigated and prosecuted by Law. The collaboration of the neighborhood allows for more immediate action, emphasizes Yonathan de León.
These patrols are carried out both in unmarked Local Police cars, premiered last summer, and on foot and with the regulatory uniform of this police force. For this, the Local Police Force has been equipped with new police vehicles (in previous terms with the PSOE the Police were forced to go in rental cars due to lack of a fleet), and new technological systems, which allow them to access police databases.
The Local Police of Arrecife, within the improvement of services during this term, has created new units to protect minors in school environments, with the Tutoring Agents, and the new specialized unit aimed at preventing violence in the sports field and in other coexistence spaces, thus reinforcing its model of preventive security and proximity.
This unit, made up of agents with specific training, focuses its action on mediation, the early detection of conflicting behaviors, and intervention in risk situations, especially in contexts where minors participate.
Brake on drug dens and control of violent house occupations
In addition to reinforcing this police presence in the neighborhoods, Local Police officers, by mandate of the mayor, have carried out direct monitoring of drug dens and drug dealing places, managing to dismantle in the last 48 months, nearly twenty properties (warehouses, houses or ruined properties) used for these purposes, which caused situations of violence and insecurity for the neighbors who suffered the presence of these places near their homes.
The Local Police of Arrecife has been a pioneer, during this term, in providing a 24-hour service to prevent violent property occupations, with great results for security in the capital of Lanzarote.
