The Arrecife City Council has several actions underway to improve lighting in different areas of the municipality, especially in the capital's neighborhoods. To carry out these plans, the City Council has put out to tender in recent months different tenders to contract the installation of new lighting with specific projects, and also published the tender for the supply of electrical material for the improvement of public spaces or municipal buildings.
As of yesterday, March 14, the Public Sector Procurement Platform inserted the official announcement from the Arrecife mayor's office regarding the award of the tender 'Supply of electrical material for the maintenance and replacement of public spaces and properties owned by the Arrecife City Council'.
As established in the justification report for this tender, the "Mayor's Office and the Department of Public Works of the Arrecife City Council have detected the need to contract the supply of electrical material for the maintenance and replacement of public spaces and properties owned by the municipality."
This tender was published on January 10. Now, as of March 14, 2024, the award is resolved. The Arrecife City Council, through the Department of Public Works - the area to which the Municipal Lighting Service is attached - will invest "close to 1.7 million euros in the next two years to have electrical material available to reinforce public lighting throughout the city." The technical specifications establish the possibility of extending this contract for two more years, with a four-year extension. The resolution of the Procurement Board specifies the awarded company, reference prices, guarantees, and discounts on the purchase price.
"Faster improvements" in public lighting
The mayor of the city, Yonathan de León, who has acknowledged that "Arrecife has obsolete lighting in many areas of the municipality," has pointed out that from now on the Department of Public Works will be able to "intervene more quickly in the replacement of damaged lighting by having a guaranteed supply contract for these next two years."
De León has emphasized that "to improve the lighting, we need to have spare materials, and with this tender, the supply is guaranteed."
