The Local Police of Arrecife continues its fight to curb the sale of drugs to the population, especially to minors in the municipality.
Over this past weekend, a large deployment of agents from the USCI, the Local Police Unit assigned to Citizen Security and Intervention, carried out a sweep and monitoring of certain points in the neighborhoods of La Vega, Altavista, and the 'Porto Naos' area, where the old salt flats are located, which are in the sights of the Local Police to prevent them from becoming drug dens.
The Mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, as the direct head of the Local Police, has emphasized that officers are increasing their presence, both day and night, in certain sensitive areas of the city, to curb the consumption or sale of illegal drugs in public spaces and parks in the city.
These continuous deployments of the Arrecife Police, on a rotating basis, are carried out with unmarked cars and plainclothes officers, or direct interventions with members of the USCI, supported by the Local Police Canine Unit, which has dogs trained in the location of narcotics. Some of these services are reinforcing the search for drugs in places hidden by traffickers in public spaces.
The investigations by the Local Police have led to the clarification and arrest of individuals and the shutdown of premises used for illicit drug transactions, and have also been characterized by the closure and dismantling of up to 11 crack houses in various neighborhoods of Arrecife, through their actions during this municipal term.
