The Arrecife City Council, through the Department of Beaches, has put out to public tender the contracting of sunbed and umbrella services on El Reducto beach, the main one in the capital of Lanzarote, and which has renewed its Blue Flag despite having been closed to bathing for almost half a year due to contamination from a sewage spill.
Since this Tuesday, May 5, this new tender from the Arrecife City Council has been posted on the Contracting Platform. Led by the mayor, Yonathan de León. After receiving the required authorization from the Coastal Authority (known as seasonal beach services), the Beaches Department, led by councilwoman Davinia Déniz, has convened this tender to cover "a need demanded by the hoteliers in the area, and by regular bathers".
According to the established tender, the Department of Beaches has the authorization from the Coastal Authority until the end of 2029, which will allow to guarantee that El Reducto beach, after this bidding process, will offer a demarcated area with sunbeds and umbrellas. The area will be located in the sector of El Reducto closest to the hotel establishments, which offer as an advantage to their clients a Blue Flag beach, just a few steps away, and with lifeguard and surveillance service every day of the year, accessible beach, free locker service, bathrooms and even a solarium for people with reduced mobility.
Davinia Déniz has detailed that tourism professionals present in the capital "consider it attractive and an advantage that El Reducto offers these services of hammocks and umbrellas on the beach". Furthermore, many of the travelers who arrive in Lanzarote on tourist cruises, and who decide to enjoy the capital, usually go to El Reducto beach to sunbathe, taking advantage of their layover hours in Arrecife.
During the past 2025, more than 640,000 cruise passengers arrived at the ports of Arrecife, a figure that is expected to be far surpassed in this 2026. Interested companies have until June 8 to participate in this tender.
