The Arrecife City Council, through the Department of Sports, wanted to clarify some issues regarding the public complaint of a La Voz reader about the gym machines accumulated in the Argana Alta pavilion.
Currently, the concessionaire company (won a public tender) for the management of the Argana Alta Sports Pavilion, has "started the works for the adaptation and reopening of these facilities", specifies the City Council. "After more than 10 years closed to the public, the mayor of the city, Yonathan de León, and the Councilor for Sports, Eli Merino, managed to close an agreement with the company that won the tender to start these works, and proceed to its reopening," they detailed. According to what was signed, the company has "until the end of this year to complete the work."
"It is notorious that this pavilion was opened without an opening license and in non-compliance with the safety regulations for this type of building." With the works underway, the facilities will be "adapted and legalized" to allow their opening with the required authorizations, they make clear.
The concessionaire company has made the decision to "dispense with this machinery, which has been out of use for more than 10 years". The concession determines that with the new opening this pavilion must "have equipment contemplated in the specifications."
As it is machinery with metallic elements, it must be "a company authorized for the recycling, collection and treatment of waste for this type of elements." "The concessionaire has determined this waste management with the company responsible for this recycling." The Arrecife City Council "has not intervened in the making of this decision", they assure.
The waste company has signed a "commitment" with the pavilion's concessionaire for the treatment of this waste and to prevent it from "being dumped uncontrollably" in public spaces or natural areas.
"Citizens must have the guarantee that, after this reopening of the Pavilion, the facilities will have the sports machinery outlined in the specifications for which it was awarded this management," they concluded from the city council.
