Arrecife has approved in its session this Wednesday to make a budget modification to settle the debt of default interest to which the City Council has been condemned. From the Government group they point out that this conviction has been "due to the inaction of the Municipal Government in the stage of the socialist Eva de Anta".
The modification, incorporated in urgent matters, was raised to the plenary by the mayor Yonathan de León. The Budget Management Unit is attached to the Mayor's Office and has processed this modification, whose elevation by urgency was approved unanimously. Now this plenary agreement will be submitted to the mandatory procedure of public exposure for fifteen days.
However, the mayor has reported that the Legal Department, also attached to the Mayor's Office, is considering possible options to appeal the ruling, of October 3rd. The ruling resolves an appeal filed by the heirs of the owner of the expropriated land on the total amount of legal interest to which the City Council of Arrecife was condemned.
With the budget modification, for the amount of 6,058,024 euros, the specific item is endowed before a forecast where the City Council of Arrecife has the budgetary capacity to settle the debt of these high interests collected in the sentence. The ruling of the TSJC of the Canary Islands accredits that the City Council of Arrecife only owes the heirs the amount of 6,058,024, of the total of 33 million euros to which it was condemned (21 million for the expropriation and 12 in interest, of which more than 4 for default interest).
Finally, the City Council points out that "the principal of the expropriation, as stated in the sentence, was already paid in the past term with the mayor Astrid Pérez, after signing the loan that allowed to reduce the high interest rates to which the City Council was condemned."
